House Rules
The Lineup Club: House Rules & Etiquette
Our Philosophy: The Lineup Club is a sanctuary for the appreciation of billiards, built on a foundation of respect—for the game, for each other, and for the peaceful neighbourhood we call home. These rules are designed to preserve the club’s integrity, ensure everyone’s enjoyment, and honour our shared responsibility to the community.
Section 1: General Conduct & Membership
1. Membership & Access:
The club is a private members’ establishment. Only members and their signed-in guests may access the facilities. All guests must be registered at the front desk by the host member, who assumes full responsibility for their guest’s conduct and adherence to these rules.
2. Respectful Environment:
Conduct must be respectful and courteous to all members, guests, and staff at all times. Aggressive, discriminatory, or abusive language or behavior will not be tolerated and is grounds for immediate revocation of membership without refund.
3. Dress
Code: A smart-casual dress code is encouraged. We aim to maintain an atmosphere of relaxed sophistication. Clothing must be clean and presentable.
4. Safety & Liability:
Members and guests use the club facilities at their own risk. The Lineup Club is not liable for loss or damage to personal property. Any wilful damage to club property (tables, cues, furniture, etc.) will be charged to the responsible member.
Section 2: The Game & Table Etiquette
5. Table Bookings:
Tables are primarily available by reservation through our booking system. Walk-in play is subject to availability. Please be punctual for your booking; a 15-minute grace period may apply.
6. Respect the Equipment:
Treat the tables and cues with care. No sitting, leaning, smoking over or placing drinks on the pool tables. Chalk should be applied carefully. *Only club-provided chalk and cue tips are to be used. Report any equipment issues to staff immediately.
7. Game Play & Pace:
Be mindful of other players. While competitive spirit is welcome, excessive celebration or disruptive behaviour after a game is discouraged. Please maintain a reasonable pace of play during busy periods.
8. “Winner Stays” / Challenge Rules:
Specific challenge rules for open tables will be clearly posted and managed respectfully. Disputes should be referred to a staff member for a final, fair decision.
Section 3: Noise & Residential Consideration (Our Shared Priority)
9. Designated Quiet Hours:
-
-
Sunday to Thursday: 9:00 PM is the start of “Quiet Hours.”
-
Friday & Saturday: “Quiet Hours” begin at 10:00 PM.
-
During Quiet Hours, all members and guests must make a concerted effort to significantly lower all noise levels. This includes voices, phone conversations, and the general volume of activity.
-
10. External Areas:
If an external smoking or seating area is provided, it is to be used strictly as a quiet zone, especially after sunset. Conversations must be held at low volume. No congregating outside the front of the building.
11. Music & Audio:
Background music volume is controlled by management and will be kept at a low, ambient level. It will be gradually reduced as Quiet Hours approach and turned off entirely by the end of Quiet Hours. Personal music played through speakers is prohibited.
12. Arrival & Departure:
Please enter and leave the premises quietly. Be mindful of car doors, voices, and engine noise in the parking area, especially late at night. Do not idle engines and avoid using your hooter.
Section 4: Facilities & Consumption
13. Food & Beverages:
Only food and beverages purchased on the premises may be consumed. No external food or drinks are permitted. All drinks must use provided coasters.
14. Alcohol Consumption:
The responsible service and consumption of alcohol is a strict policy. The club reserves the right to refuse service to anyone. Excessive intoxication is unacceptable, and any member or guest deemed intoxicated will be asked to leave and must arrange for safe transport home. Please view our BYO Policy.
15. Smoking & Vaping:
We don’t mind smoking inside the club, however please make use of the provided astrays. Please be mindful of non-smokers and minors as well.
16. Mobile Phones:
Please set mobile phones to silent or vibrate. All calls must be taken outside in the designated area, not at the tables or in seating areas.
Section 5: Safety & Security
17. CCTV:
For the safety and security of all, the premises are monitored by CCTV 24 hours a day, in compliance with POPIA.
18. Emergency Exits:
All emergency exits and pathways must be kept clear at all times. Familiarise yourself with the location of fire exits upon entry.
19. Unattended Belongings:
Do not leave personal belongings unattended. The club accepts no responsibility for lost or stolen items.
Section 6: Enforcement & Final Note
20. Staff Authority:
All staff members are authorised to enforce these rules. Their decisions regarding rule interpretation and enforcement are final.
21. Member Responsibility:
It is the duty of each member to be aware of and comply with these rules and to ensure their guests do the same.
22. A Shared Commitment:
Adherence to these rules, especially concerning noise, is not just a policy but a fundamental condition of our club’s existence in this community. Failure to comply, particularly with Sections 3, 10, and 11, will result in a formal warning, followed by potential suspension or termination of membership for repeated offences.
By becoming a member or entering as a guest, you agree to abide by these House Rules, helping us maintain The Lineup Club as a distinguished, respectful, and lasting part of both the sporting and local community.
Management reserves the right to update these rules as necessary.
